This month, BUY tenants Gravity Sketch, hosted twenty year 10 & 11 computer science students from Lilian Baylis Technology School in Lambeth as part of their BuyGiveWork commitment. The visit was a chance for the students to find out what it is like to work in a startup making software for immersive (VR/AR) technologies.
Based on the 9th floor here in Brixton, Gravity Sketch is an intuitive and immersive 3D design tool enabling designers to unleash their creativity. Their innovative product is currently being used by professional designers and creatives from a cornucopia of industries, including automotive (Ford and General Motors), film/gaming, product/industrial design, and fashion. Gravity Sketch also works with secondary schools and higher education institutions to incorporate their collaborative VR application as a cornerstone tool for teaching 3D modeling and creation in curriculums.
The visit provided the students an opportunity to learn about Gravity Sketch through a hands-on learning experience. After trying out the collaborative 3D design tool in VR, they were taken through a Q&A session with the CTO, Daniel Thomas, who discussed the career possibilities available within the tech industry to those interested in expanding their programming skills. Students were interested in finding out how to set-up a business, and the challenges faced with building a startup in an emerging technology industry.
Our mission at 3Space is to take on tenants who are willing to open their doors and share their experiences and expertise with other tenants and local people, as demonstrated through our BuyGiveWork initiative. The session was a great opportunity for Gravity Sketch to engage more closely in the local community, to inspire and provide tips for the next generation of potential tech innovators and to help put Brixton on the map as a thriving London business hub.
